The Haunting Of Alice D (2014/RLJ DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: D Film: C-

Jessica Sonneborn's The Haunting of Alice D (2014) is another low budget entry in the supernatural horror entry that doesn't break any new ground and borrows ideas for other stronger films. Not helping it are the characters that dwell within, all familiar character archetypes that we come to know that all seem pretty bored. The script is notorious and the setup before the killing begins seems to go on and on forever.

Back in the late 1890s, Davenport House was a famously successful brothel, run to the angry extreme by an owner (played by Kane Hodder of the original Friday the 13th fame) known for ruthlessness and exploiting the innocent. Alice (Kristina Page) was very young, yet like so many others, was stuck as a sexually exploited target until she snapped and turned. The building has been saved and 'restored' a hundred-years later, but something evil remains behind... something the new visitors are about to discover.

Presented in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds fine on DVD but could benefit to a high def upgrade. No extras.

A few cool shots aside, this film is just like every other ghost movie you've seen.
