Southbound (2015/Sony DVD)

Picture: C Sound: C- Extras: A Film: C+

Out in the dessert, things always go South. Two men running from something, a girl's band with a flat tire, a man who didn't pay attention to the road, a man searching for his long lost sister and a family who's father got something to hide. Secrets, demons, karma, it all eventually either follows or chases you down, you can run, you can hide, but you can't out run it in Southbound (2015).

Hell on Earth, it's here and we just don't know it. Sinners beware down South is where hell is. Two men are chased by bone angels of death. A group of girls get taken in by Satanists. A man runs over a girl and tries to save her, but only tortures her to death. A man tries to save his sister he lost 13 years ago only to discovers the truth, she wants to live with demons (really). And things come full circle when a family gets brutally assaulted and murdered by the 2 men and they turn into the bone angels of death.

This was a series of horror short stories, while none of them are directly related to each other, they are indirectly related in the writer's idea of an anthology of some kind. Everything seemed filmed in the same town, all the same places just different times. It is a story of a single town that is full of immortal demon humans with a bit of supernatural powers. The film was like watching/listening to camp fire horror stories that people tell, with mixed results from multiple directors.

The anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image is poor and weak, while the lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix is somehow worse, so brace yourself for poor playback. Extras include commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes and photo gallery.
