Den-noh Coil: Collection One (2007/Maiden Japan/Sentai Blu-ray Set)

Picture: B Sound: C+ Extras: C Episodes: B+

In the near future, all children wear E-glasses with virtual pets in real time. However in the shadows are the 'illegals', mysterious virtual creatures that threaten to steal/infect their virtual pets. What was thought to be a child's toy turns out to be another world on top of the real, but what if that world now want our world?

In Den-noh Coil: Collection One (2007), Yoko has just moved into Daikoku city, there she meets and find the Coil Detective Agency while children using their virtual glasses search for virtual oddities or 'illegals', but what are 'illegals'? Illegals are older programs that get erased and overwritten in the virtual world. With each new version/upgrades what if suddenly these virtual 'pets/programs' become sentient? Yoko gets learns there is a hidden dark secret to the virtual world.

This was an interesting idea of how everyone can be connected through virtual glasses and how they can over lap in real life. Society/children spends time, money and resources to various things to 'upgrade' up load patches to their 'virtual' world. While the idea is cool and falls into possible realistic future, it is unrealistic with how much it would take to have a virtual world on top of a real world which everyone can see in real time, each home would require dozens of supercomputers to process and interact with all users in the area much less track things and objects in the world in real time.

The 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image transfer can show the age of the materials used, but the presentation is fine throughout, but the DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) Japanese 2.0 Stereo lossless mix is not always as convincing, upgrading the older sound with mixed results and better than the English version. Extras include clean opening and closing animation and trailers.
