Bridges, John Heard (Home Alone), and Lisa Eichhorn (The
Talented Mr. Ripley) star in director Ivan Passer's 1981
Drama/Thriller Cutter's Way, a film with some powerful acting,
production design, and direction. Part murder mystery, part social
commentary, the film centers around the witnessing of a body being
dumped and an outrageous conspiracy theory that launches the truth
behind a young woman's death. Presented here on Blu-ray for the
first time thanks to our friends at Twilight Time and featuring a new
transfer and stunning audio track, the film looks and sounds better
than it did in its initial run and will be a great addition to any
film fan's Blu-ray collection.
Alex
Cutter (Heard) is a casualty of war and returns home minus an eye, a
leg, and an arm. Not only that, he lacks direction, is a raging
alcoholic, and abuses his lovely wife (Eichhorn). One night his
friend Richard Bone (Bridges), who happens to be a gigolo with an
interest in Cutter's wife, witnesses someone dumping something in an
alley after his car breaks down that turns out to be the body of a
seventeen year old girl. Cutter soon finds value in life by helping
Bone expose the woman's killer, thought to be a wealthy man living in
the city. The murdered girl's sister, Valerie, soon becomes wrapped
up in the theories and soon they all must band together to solve the
mystery that changes their lives forever.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and
a crystal clear English, lossless 1.0 Mono DTS-HD MA track, this
limited edition looks fantastic on disc as mentioned and is an
impressive restoration of the film's original elements. I hadn't
heard of this film before this release but am happy to have seen it
for the first time on Blu-ray disc.

Bridges, as usual, knocks it out of the park in this one and along
with a host of interesting characters and a story that keeps you
guessing, Cutter's Way is a Film Noir of sorts and a whodunnit
mystery with some clever social commentary thrown in to the mix. I
would definitely suggest checking the film out, if you haven't seen
it.
