Fever (2014/Artsploitation DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: D Film: C-

Fever is an 2014 French suspense/erotic crime thriller, directed by Raphael Neal, that is a low budget thriller that has some interesting ideas but ultimately felt to me to be a little long winded.

Artsy and not terribly acted or made, the film is based on both a true account and a novel by Leslie Kaplan of the same name. International stars for the film include Martin Loizillon, Pierre Moure, Julie-Marie Parmentier, Philippe Laudenbach, Pascal Cervo, Francoise Lebrun, and Marie Bunel.

Fever centers around two teenage boys that commit the murder of a random teenage girl and a neighborhood woman who bumps into them and makes the connection about their identities. The film started to lose me when she gets an erotic attraction to the two killer teens and they form a bizarre relationship. From there, you'll have to see it to believe it.

The film is available on DVD and is presented in standard definition with an anamorphically enhanced widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 French language track with English subs. The film looks and sounds fine on disc but could benefit to the texture and detail that Blu-ray has to offer.

Extras include only the trailer for the film and four other trailers for various titles from the company. No commentaries or EPK materials here which is a little disappointing.

If you're a fan of French cinema and are looking for something dark and brooding, then Fever make grab you.
