The Confirmation (2016/Lionsgate Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: C Film: C+

Clive Owen, who we just don't see as much anymore in high profile films, bats it out of the park again in this family drama The Confirmation, which is directed by Bob Nelson (who also wrote the award winning Alexander Payne film Nebraska). The film also features a fantastic supporting cast including Patton Oswalt, Maria Bello, and Robert Forster to name a few.

The Confirmation is about a young boy who spends the weekend with his alcoholic deadbeat Dad (Owen) while his Mom is out of town at a Catholic function with her spouse. Throughout the course of the day, several inconveniences happen that end up bringing father and son closer together. While similar to other dysfunctional family films, I found this one to be pretty endearing and overall delivered a surprisingly profound message. As mentioned, the cast is great too and add to his easy-to-watch moviegoing popcorn muncher.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and a nice, lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds absolutely fantastic on Blu-ray disc and that always helps such dramas. Also included is an Ultraviolet digital copy of the film.

Extras include the featurettes "A Father-Son Story: Inside the Characters of The Confirmation" and "The Performances of The Confirmation".
