Gary Oldman, Lena Olin, Roy Scheider, Annabella Sciorra, Will Patton and Juliette Lewis star in the 1993 Peter Medak film Romeo Is Bleeding that is in many ways a modern Film Noir. Oldman is pitch perfect as usual playing the strung out good for nothing lead who gets entangled with multiple women (including a femme fatale of course) and finds himself on the run from the Mob. This is definitely one of Oldman's very recognized roles, which is surprising as he is quite good.

A corrupt New York police officer named Jack Grimaldi (Oldman) isn't too honest of a guy in his personal or professional life. His double life is lead as both a witness protection guard and as a Mafia informant. In his personal life he has both a beautiful wife and a teenage mistress and things couldn't be better until he meets Demarkov (Lena Olin), who is as sadistic as she is beautiful. Then things get more twisted.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and a highly detailed and lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo track with Pro Logic surrounds, the film usually looks and sounds better than ever before on Blu-ray disc.

Special Features include:

An isolated score track (with some sound effects)

Collectible insert booklet with another excellent Julie Kirgo essay

Original Theatrical Trailer

A so-so success at the time, the film has its following and Director Medak is in good form like the actors, even if the final film is not always effective. If you're a fan of Oldman or the other cast members and missed this one then now is a great time to check it out in this great release from Twilight Time.
