Elvis & Nixon (2016/Sony Blu-ray)

Picture: B Sound: C+ Extras: C Film: B

In 1970, Elvis Presley (Michael Shannon) - the 'King', showed up on the lawn of White House to talk with Richard Nixon (Kevin Spacey), the President of the United States of America. No one really knows what they said or talked about but it let to one of the most requested pictures in the National Archives. However, before he gets to meet the President Elvis will have to get through army of secret agents, FBI and White house security. But hey... he's 'The King'.

What would you do if the King of Rock and Roll showed up at your door? As we see in Liza Johnson's Elvis & Nixon (2016), Elvis Presley worried about America's youth and morals decides to talk with the President that he has an idea to make him a 'Federal Agent-at-large'. Nixon on the other hand was a paranoid man who at first didn't want to meet Elvis, but under the pressure of his PR men and mainly the influence of his teenage daughter he changed his mind. There they discover the one thing they had in common ...their huge egos. And you have to question who's ego is bigger and who is in charge? The King of Rock and Roll or the President of the United States of America?

It's the 60s & 70s and you were either into sex, drugs, guns and/or music. This was an amusing comic drama based on the well-known, but semi-unlikely pairing. What was amusing wasn't the meeting between the President and King of Rock and Roll, but what it took for them to arrange the meeting. Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon play their characters well, but they STILL the looked like fake Elvis and Nixon impersonators. However, could any pair of actors shake these huge historical personalities? Alex Pettyfer, Evan Peters, Sky Ferreria, Colin Hanks, Tate Donovan, and Johnny Knoxville also star.

The 1080p 2.35 X 1 digital High Definition image looks good, shot in HD, with some flaws and enough consistency, while the DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 mix is dialogue based, but clean and just fine for the film. Extras include a feature-length audio commentary, Crazy But True featurette and trailers.
