Bitten: Season 3 - The Final Season (2016/Season Three/eOne DVD Set)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: C Episodes: C

A bit more intense than the Twilight series, but definitely drawing some inspiration from that series of novels and films is the third and final season of the Bitten TV series. Based on the New York Times Bestselling book series Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong, this season picks up a few months after the climatic battle that ended Season 2. At times, a bit too ambitious with its visual effects and a little heavy on romantic drama for my own personal tastes, the last season is presented here spanning over three discs and will no doubt please fans of the show who are saying farewell to the show after only three seasons.

Bitten stars Laura Vandervoort (Smallville) in the lead role of Elena, Greyston Holt (Once Upon a Time), Greg Bryk (A History of Violence), Steve Lund (Haven), and Genelle Williams (Warehouse 13). The show centers on Elena (Vandervoort) who is a photographer who is bitten by her werewolf ex-fiance. At first, hiding her secret, she soon becomes a fierce leader of the fierce Stonehaven pack - who go through many conflicts with both humans and non-humans alike.

Ten episodes make up the season including Family Of Sorts, Our Own Blood, Right Behind You, A Quiet Dog, Of Sonders Weight, Rule of Anger, On The Brink, Tili Tili Born, Shock The System, and the season finale, Truth Changes Everything.

Presented in standard definition with an anamorphically enhanced, widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the show looks and sounds fine for DVD, but could benefit to a high definition upgrade and previous seasons had Blu-ray versions. All of the episodes are presented unedited in this release.

Featurette: "A Look at the Final Season"

While nicely shot and produced overall, some of the special effects, acting, and storylines are a bit cheesy and overall, the show gives off a vibe that we've been there/done that in the werewolf genre. I'm more a fan of the humanoid look for the creatures akin to Lon Chaney version than I am models that turn into CGI, more animal-looking ''wolves''. In any event, the short-lived show looks as good as it can on DVD and is presented nicely by eOne.
