Acclaimed
director Steven Soderbergh (Sex,
Lies, and Videotape)
and star Clive Owen (who was Golden Globe nominated for his
performance in Season
One,
reviewed elsewhere on this site) bring us The
Knick
- which is an edgy drama from Cinemax and features both bizarre
medical procedures and a picture perfect early 1900s New York setting
that will keep your eyes glued to the screen. Fantastic performances
aside, The
Knick
takes you on a journey and doesn't let go. Set in the Knickerbocker
Hospital, patients both rich and poor pass through as the staff are
curiously drawn in challenges that change the face of healthcare.
The show also features actors Eve Hewson, Andre Holland, Eve Hewson,
Eric Johnson, and Michael Angarano to name a few.
The
four-disc Blu-ray set of the second season features ten episodes
including Ten
Knots, You're No Rose, The Best with the Best to Get the Best,
Wonderful Surprises, Whiplash, There Are Rules, Williams and Walker,
Not Well At All, Do You Remember Moon Flower?,
and This
is All We Are.
All of the episodes are surprisingly directed by Soderbergh (most
big time directors sit back as producers on series such as this one)
so the style and tone are consistent which really helps sell the
effectiveness.
The
show is presented on Blu-ray in 1080p high definition with a
widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 an all encompassing DTS-HD MA
(Master Audio) 5.1 lossless set of track that greatly improve on the
original broadcast quality. Also included is a UV copy and several
foreign language tracks, depending on your territory.
