The Bodyguard (2016 aka My Beloved Bodyguard/Well Go USA Blu-ray)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: C Film: B+

Mr. Ding (Sammo Hung) is a retired special agent living in a small countryside village on the boarder of Russia and China. Looking to live a quiet life, he befriends a young innocence little girl next door, Cherry who lives next door to him. When Cherry's deadbeat father gets caught up with both the Russian and Chinese mob, Ding must once again recall on his old skills to protect Cherry when a job goes South in Hung's The Bodyguard (2016 aka My Beloved Bodyguard).

Mr. Ding, however, also suffers from dementia and is not even able to remember what he did that day. The only thing he does remember is Cherry, but her father is also chronic alcoholic and gambler leading to big losses to the Chinese Mob who force him to steal from the Russian Mob. When he gets caught both Russian and Chinese Mob, he will do anything to find him, including using Cherry. Even though Mr. Ding suffers from memory lost, his ingrained fighting skills have not left him and both the Russian and Chinese mob will have to face ...the crazy old man.

This was another action packed Hong Kong martial arts movie. Sammo Hung plays a crazy old man along with Andy Lau of the story of one man against the entire mob. Hung's title character is also a handicapped old man who can break arms and legs like twigs and fights like Kung Fu Panda. Despite such obvious points, this works very well and keeps Hung one of the top stars in his field.

The 1080p 2.35 X 1 digital High Definition image transfer is digitally shot and looks good throughout, if not ever spectacular, while the DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless sound is well mixed and presented, but also not always spectacular. In fairness, this has its share of dialogue-based moments and that actually works for the film. Extras include making of the film and trailers.
