Based
on the novel best-selling spy genre author John le Carre's of the
same name, the BBC/AMC six episode mini-series The Night Manager
arrives on Blu-ray disc with intriguing performances by Tom
Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie that are not to be missed. Directed by
Susan Bier (In a Better World), the show centers on arms
dealing, espionage, and international intrigue that will be sure to
entertain fans of le Carre's work and of the darker, intelligent side
of the genre in general.
Hotel
manager and former British Soldier Jonathan Pine (Hiddelston) is on a
personal quest to bring down an intelligent international arms dealer
by the name of Richard Roper (Laurie), who are both on the same plane
on intelligence much like Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty.
Recruited by Angela Burr (Olivia Colman) to bring down Roper, Pine
must bend the rules and earn Roper's trust in order to successfully
pull off his mission. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem as simple as
it sounds, and Pine is constantly on a race of life and death until
his mission is complete.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and
a crystal clear DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, the show looks and
sounds incredible on Blu-ray disc and is a vast improvement upon its
original television broadcast. Also included is an UltraViolet
digital copy.
No
extras - aside from the uncensored episodes.
Strong
from a production angle and featuring a well-crafted screenplay, The
Night Manager will force you to binge watch the entire season,
possibly in one sitting (it did me) as it is an engaging and fun
ride.
