Shameless: The Complete Sixth Season (2015 - 2016/Warner DVD Set)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: C Episodes: B+

Welcome back to Season Six of Shameless as the Gallagher family continues to create chaos and drama. Frank mourns the passing of Bianca as he test the limits and patience of religion, Fiona is having an affair and sleeping with her boss, Debbie gets knocked up and is determined to have the baby (mostly to prove Fiona wrong), Carl gets out of jail, Lip is sleeping with his professor and the school finds out, and Ian finds a brigade of gay firemen.

The problem with the Gallaghers is even if a Gallagher was to straighten out his/her act, someone else would drag them soon back down. Frank Gallagher is the patriarch of the family but he is more the town drunk/idiot, he is more the dependent and see his children more as assets than family, he uses them as income from government welfare to blackmail to help pay for his alcohol and drug addictions, his sole motivations in life are drinking, drugs, and sex, and to f#%k up whatever his family has. Fiona is the eldest daughter but acts more like the mom of the family, she is the only one who tries to keep the family together both financially and emotionally, while beautiful and hard working she is tired of fixing her family problems, her own vice/weakness/escape/stress relief is having sex with multiple men (including her junkie boss).

Debbie is the 15 year old second daughter, she gets knocked up and is determined to prove to Fiona that she can be an independent and strong young woman, but then she fails miserably when she lies about her pregnancy and realizes too late she needs the help and support from her wayward family (but she is still too proud to admit she was wrong). Carl just got out of jail for being a drug dealer and is a white-boy-gangster-wannabe, now he deals in guns and the current bread winner for the entire family. Ian continues to hop from job to job, blaming everything on him being bipolar and gay. And finally, Lip the genius of the family, while he made it to university on scholarship has be caught sleeping with his professor and has drinking problem, he ends up losing everything and getting expelled, he is well on his way on becoming Frank No. 2.

Shameless is all about the family and the drama, it is about a low income American family that somehow sticks together despite all the hot mess they create. Being at the bottom (and being the bottom feeders) they have nothing to lose, they are shameless and proud Americans in the fact that they can and will do anything to get by. For audiences who watch Shameless it is all about the drama when $h!# hits the fan, but we do have to ask ourselves, by watching Shameless, do we somehow feel better and more fortunate for ourselves in that we are not the Gallaghers?

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 and lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 mix are as good as this show could possibly look on DVD. Extras include Shamelessly Shanola, Running the Table: A Shameless Conversation and unaired scenes.
