The

One
of the most popular horror/thriller shows of all time lands on disc
in this collectible Blu-ray edition of the Sixth Season of The
Walking Dead. Watching the season through again, you realize
just how much really happened to our cast of characters and how
greatly their situation has changed - from bad to worse.
Facing
off against the zombie apocalypse, former Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew
Lincoln) leads a group of rag-tag survivors including Daryl Dixon
(Norman Reedus), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Glen (Steven Yeun), and Carol
(Melissa Mcbride) to name a few. The show is based on the graphic
novel comic book series by Robert Kurtzman but has strayed from it in
many ways while keeping some of the same characters, plot points, and
themes. If you're a fan of the show then you should definitely read
the comics as its a nice companion to the show.
Known
famously for its fantastic zombie special effects led by Director/SFX
legend Greg Nicotero and his Special Effects company KNB, every
season of The Walking Dead ups the ante when it comes to
zombie makeup, gore, practical and digital effects. If you are a
zombie fan, then you owe it to yourself to watch the series if you
don't already. There are also several scenes throughout the series
that pay homage to many great zombie films of the past including the
films of horror legend George A. Romero.
The
Sixth Season mainly leads up to the entrance of one of the
comic series' biggest villains, Negan (played by Watchmen star
Jeffrey Dean Morgan) who is a sort of savior to a band of
bloodthirsty criminals. His potty mouth was censored in the show,
but here on Blu-ray disc, we get to see the ending scene to the
season in its full uncensored glory. Sporting a baseball bat lined
in barbed wire named Lucille, Negan is truly a unique adversary to
Rick Grimes and profoundly more interesting than The Governor - a
villain whom was prominently featured in season three of the show.
16
episodes span five discs and include First Time Again, JSS, Thank
You, Here's Not Here, Now, Heads Up, Start to Finish, No Way Out, The
Next World, Knots Untie, Not Tomorrow Yet, The Same Boat, Twice as
Far, East, and Last Day on Earth. Each episode is around
an hour in length.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and
an amazing-sounding, lossless Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (48kHz) track, the
show looks and sound fantastic on Blu-ray and improves upon the
original HD broadcasts. There is a lot of grain in the transfer (the
show is shot on Super 16mm Kodak film negative), however, that is
especially prominent in black and white scenes of the show but
doesn't affect the quality overall. There's also a digital copy
included for your smart phone or tablet.

In
my opinion, The Walking Dead is getting better and better with
every season. My only complaint is the almost cheap way ending of
the season finale (if you've seen it you know what I mean) but, in
many ways it achieves its cliffhanger goal of getting people talking.
I think the best days for the show are ahead and if you're a fan,
it's an exciting time as the new season is soon approaching and
showing no signs of slowing down.
