The Strain: The Complete Second Season (2015/Fox Blu-ray Set)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: B Episodes: B+

Based on the trilogy of novels by gothic filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) and author Chuck Hogan, The Strain is a must watch for horror fans. More frightening than The Walking Dead, this show continues to push the envelope with beautiful cinematography, great acting, high end special effects, and an intriguing story that keeps you hooked.

Set in the not too distant future, The Strain shows a world affected by a virus that turns its victims into vampiric-like creatures with deadly retractable tongue that infest and multiply. It's up to Doctors Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) to create a biological weapon strong enough to destroy the new race. With the help of sage Vampire Hunter Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley), who is on a desperate search for an ancient book that may hold the key to defeating the sinister ''Master'' - a Nosferatu-like ghoul who is the strongest creature of all.

This three disc set includes thirteen hour-long episodes of the series including BK NY., By Any Means, Fort Definace, The Silver Angel, Quick and Painless, Identity, The Born, Intruders, The Battle for Red Hook, The Assassin, Dead End, Fallen Light, and the season finale Night Train.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a lossless DTS-HD 5.1 MA (Master Audio) track on each episode, this disc greatly improves upon the original television broadcast. Del Toro's unique style and use of colors shines through in the series and this is all captured perfectly on Blu-ray disc with little to be desired in terms of presentation.

Special Features include...

Deleted Scenes

Meet the Crew of The Strain

The White Room

Audio Commentary on "Night Train" featuring Carlton Cuse

Gag Reel

Beyond the Page

Sentient strigoi

Season Mode: Where you can watch the episodes in order they fall in the season and your place will be remembered if you stop and come back to the disc.

I would highly suggest this show to fans of thrilling horror television. For more on the debut season, try this link...
