The Swinging Cheerleaders (1974/MVD Visual/Arrow Blu-ray w/DVD)

Picture: B+/B- Sound: B+/B- Extras: B Film: C+

From renowned cult film director Jack Hill (Coffy) comes the risque 1974 low budget film The Swinging Cheerleaders, which looks at how wild and crazy college life can be. This is definitely a film that couldn't be made in the same way today (and a favorite of Quentin Tarantino), and isn't afraid to push the boundaries of female exploitation. Nicely shot with a fun screenplay, the film stars Colleen Camp (Game of Death), Rainbeaux Smith (Caged Heat), and Playboy Playmate Rosanne Katon.

When an attractive college newspaper reporter goes undercover as a cheerleader in an attempt to expose the way women are unfairly treated, she ends up becoming one of the gals and even finds some college love (Ric Carrott, later of the hit TV series Space Academy is among the young male cast of football players very available). In the meantime, she bites off more than she can chew when she gets thrown in the middle of a controversy with the sinister coach of the team.

Presented in 1080p high definition and restored in 2K from the original film elements along with an English DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) Mono 1.0 lossless track, The Swinging Cheerleaders looks and sounds amazing in this Arrow release. Also included in this release is the DVD edition (with lossy Dolby Digital Mono and an anamorphically enhanced presentation), which looks considerably better than previous versions but not quite as impressive as the Blu-ray disc.
