The Flash: The Complete Second Season (2015 - 2016/DC Comics/Warner Blu-ray Set)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: B Film: B+

Some may argue that The Flash is the best of the new DC superhero shows (which include Arrow, Supergirl, Gotham, and Legends of Tomorrow - all reviewed elsewhere on this site), and they might be right.

Packed full of humor, lovable characters, outstanding special effects, and faithfulness to the source material, the Grant Gustin-led series has certainly captured a key audience of fans old and young alike. Improving upon the first season, The Complete Second Season (2015 - 2016) has us introduced to new heroes and villains as The Flash faces off against time traveling black masked adversary Zoom and others. The show stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh and original Warner/CBS TV series Flash actor John Wesley Shipp - who here plays Barry Allen's father.

Another highlight that fans found this season on the show is that Filmmaker Kevin Smith came in and directed an episode, The Runaway Dinosaur, in which his famed co-star Jason Mewes (Clerks) makes a quick cameo. For fans of Arrow, we also see several crossover characters throughout the season, with the famed crossover episode also included in the set. My favorite character this season is King Shark, who looks as good as any digital character in feature DC films.

Set in the fictional Central City, Barry Allen (Gustin) is a young man who has been given unique ability as a result of getting struck by lightning. Aided by a group of talented and intelligent friends at S.T.A.R. Labs, Barry becomes known as The Flash. Soon after his emergence, he encounters other meta-humans including Reverse Flash, King Shark, Gorilla Grodd, and more straight from the pages of DC Comics.

23 episodes span the four Blu-ray discs including The Man Who Saved Central City, Flash of Two Worlds, Family of Rogues, The Fury of the Firestorm, The Darkness and The Light, Enter Zoom, Gorilla Warfare, Legends of Today, Running to Stand Still, Potential Energy, The Reverse-Flash Returns, Fast Lane, Welcome to Earth-2, Escape from Earth-2, King Shark, Trajectory, Flash Back, Versus Zoom, Back to Normal, Rupture, The Runaway Dinosaur, Invincible, and The Race of His Life.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a great sounding DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless tracks on each episode, the show looks and sounds amazing on Blu-ray disc and heavily improves upon the original television broadcast. Also included is digital copy.

Special Features include...

This is a must have for DC comics fans and great continued introduction to new audiences to the character of The Flash, who will be played by actor Ezra Miller in the upcoming film Justice League and then in his own spin-off film. Gustin more than holds his own here.
