Suture (1993/MVD Visual/Arrow Blu-ray/DVD)

Picture: B+/B Sound: B+/B Extras: B Film: B

David Seigel and Scott McGehee's superbly shot 1993 black and white film is now available from Arrow in this superb edition that is a must watch for fans of crime cinema. Produced by Steven Soderbergh, the film centers around Clay (Dannis Haysbert) and Vincent (Michael Harris) who are two half brothers that end up meeting at their father's funeral. When Vincent attempts to assassinate Clay and fails, Clay wakes up in bandages with bad wounds and a messed up eye and no memory of his former life. The mystery that untangles over the course of the film is both gripping and realistic, with outstanding performances all around.

The film barely saw a theatrical release despite the positive buzz and constant raves abot how good it looked, whuch makes it long-belated release on Blu-ray and home video for the most part 23 years later a head-scratcher, but the film finally gets the release its long deserved.

Presented in a brand new 4K high definition transfer straight from the original film negative, shot in Super 35mm black & white, the film looks and sounds absolutely incredible on Blu-ray disc in 1080p and a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and a PCM Stereo 2.0 track. A DVD version in standard definition is also included, but doesn't feature the detail or gray scale that the Blu-ray does.
