Films presents Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever
Made (2015), a fun documentary that chronicles the exploits of a
group of eleven year olds in Mississippi who decided to make a
'shot-for-shot' remake of Steven Spielberg's adventure classic film
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). Beginning the filming at age
eleven and working on the project over the seven year period of their
adolescence to teen-hood, they managed to shoot every scene in the
film except for one - the infamous fist fight scene that takes place
between Indy and a Nazi next to the Nazi plane. Now all adults, the
friends reunite and decide to raise the funding necessary to complete
their film to close the chapter in their lives. This documentary
film is produced and directed by Tim Skousen and Jeremy Coon.
The
documentary shines in showing the love of the art of filmmaking and
the bold determination these boys had in creating this project. All
of them plagued with their parents getting divorces and other home
problems, these young filmmakers used their Raiders project as
a sense of escapism. For anyone who has made a low budget/no budget
film, this is a fun and relatable documentary that serves as a love
letter to Raiders of the Lost Ark and not a film intended to
make any sort of profit.
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and
a nice sounding Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds
fine on Blu-ray disc. While the interviews are all in 1080p and look
sharp and crisp, many of the clips from the original fan film are in
1.33:1 are of varying quality. Also included is a DVD edition that
is presented in standard definition with a anamorphic 1.78:1 and a
lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track.
