Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia: Encore Edition (1974/Peckinpah/United Artists/MGM/Twilight Time Limited Edition Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B Extras: B Film: B+

PLEASE NOTE: This slightly upgraded reissue of the Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia Blu-ray is another limited edition from our friends at Twilight Time, only 3.000 copies will be made and it can be ordered from the links below.

Filmmaker Sam Peckinpah (Straw Dogs) is one of cinema's most controversial, yet great auteurs, as proved by his incredible 1974 film Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia. Filled with action, violence, nudity, drama, and some comedy, the film is presented in high definition by Twilight Time and looks and sounds better than it ever has on video versions so much so that their previous Blu-ray version sold out, so we have an Encore reissue now available for a limited run of 3,000 units and is a must for cinephiles who missed it the first time. The film stars Warren Oates, Isela Vega, Gig Young, Robert Webber, Helmut Dantine, Emilio Fernandez, and Kris Kristofferson.

When rich rancher El Jefe learns that his unmarried daughter is pregnant, he offers $1 million to anyone who brings him the head of the man responsible - Alfredo Garcia. Two of the bounty hunters, Quill and Sappensly, hire various people to go out and find Garcia but nobody seems to know him. That is until Piano player Bennie (Oates) hears about it and sees the bounty as an opportunity for him and his prostitute girlfriend Elita (Vega), who knows Garcia, to leave her horrible trade and live a life of peace. They set off to find him but soon find out that Garcia is already dead. Seeing the bounty as easy now, Bennie digs up the corpse to get the head. Shortly after a horrible event unfolds and Bennie is pushed to the limits to gain his reward.

The film is superbly shot and powerfully moving and doesn't lose any steam along the way. Fantastic performances (including star Warren Oates) and directing all around, this film is a must see that I'm surprised hasn't been remade by Hollywood yet. If you're a fan of revenge thrillers, then you won't want to miss this if you haven't seen it.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and a great sounding English 2.0 DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) Mono lossless track, the film looks and sounds fantastic considering its age. It is the same transfer from the previous Blu-ray edition and that's good news.
