Cobra The Animation: Complete Collection (2010/Season One/Sentai Blu-ray Set)

Picture: C Sound: B Extras: C Episodes: C+

Pirates beware and mothers hide your daughters, when Cobra is in town he plans to score. He is the pirate's pirate, he steals from pirates and no treasure is truly safe from him, especially beautiful (and scantily clad) women. Join Cobra as discovers the secrets and treasures of the galaxy, even though he has a pirate bounty on himself, he fights on the side of good (sort of) and protects the galaxy from evil space pirates, robots and forces of evil in Cobra The Animation: Complete Collection (2010).

Cobra is the legendary womanizing space pirate with his gun on his left arm and his heart of gold. He is basically invincible with his 'Psychogun' and he has an endless bag of tricks to woo woman or get himself out of tight spots. He somehow always end up in the middle of everything and with a hot scantly clad girl in his arms. Along with his partner/pilot Lady Armaroid they go on adventures throughout the galaxy. He is constantly hunted down and hunting for Space Pirates who get him involved with galaxy-wide doomsday superweapons. In the "Psychogun" arc, he teams up with a beautiful scientist who discovers the power to create universes but the Pirate Guild are after her. In the "Time Drive" arc, he journeys back in time and fights with his younger self to find a way to save his partner Lady Armaroid.

This was a redone retro anime, the character Cobra was like a mix blend of James Bond + Fabio with Space Pirates, though many will remember the Sylvester Stallone dud Cobra from 1986 where he looked like the title character here a bit (oh, that toothpick) though they are not related franchises. All the hairstyles, outfits and even space ships looks like something that came out of the '60s, each episode either involves him saving the world or his friends.

Thus the 1080p on the TV shows and 1080i on the OVAs, in 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is a real disappointment sadly (especially the 1080i transfers), while the DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 2.0 Japanese Stereo lossless mix with Pro Logic-like surrounds is more like it with decent recording and playback quality throughout. Extras include clean opening and closing animation and trailers.
