Vampyres (2015 remake/Artsploitation DVD)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: C Film: C

A remake of the 1974 film of the same name, Victor Mattelano's Vampyres (2015) has enough nudity, gore, and twisted perversion that may be a bit (and maybe bite) too much for some. While the story is a bit basic and stretches back to vampire folklore, the production design and special effects look pretty darn good. This is definitely a keen example of an exotic thriller and stars the well sought after Caroline Munro, Veronica Polo, and Marta Flich.

Two beautiful women (who are obviously vampires) roam the dark and exotic English countryside, looking for men (and women) to seduce and drink the blood of. Business goes about for the two Vampire ladies when a group of campers stumble into their clutches and they soon find themselves as helpless victims of sex and death. From there, anything is possible, so look out.

The film is presented in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 with a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix that are both pretty strong for the format but could benefit in high definition. Especially since most of the film takes place at night, there are many nuances that would shine much stronger with more detail, allowing it to compete more with the look of the original.

Extras include...

Artsploitation Trailers

Not a bad remake, but nothing to this much aside from the gore and nudity. If you're looking for that, then you may want to give this disc a spin. For more on the original, try our coverage of its Blu-ray release at this link...
