Morris From America (2016/Lionsgate Blu-ray)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: A Film: B+

Morris is a 13-year-old African American boy living with his single father in Germany. Both of them fancy themselves as the next Notorious B.I.G. and/or M.C. Hammer, but can they really introduce R&B into a country that prefers more electronic swing and new age techno? When Morris falls hard for 15-year-old Katrin, he is determined to use hip hop and gangster-wannabe style to win her heart in Chad Hartigan's Morris From America (2016).

It isn't easy living as a foreigner in another country, specially when you are a fat kid and a minority. Morris is living in Heidelberg with his father and he totally stands out like a sore thumb. His only charm is bring his rebellious American R&B music in attempts to prove he is a 'big man on campus'/bad ass gangster to the girl he has a crush on at the youth center, but what gets him into trouble isn't his music or his beats, but his lyrics about using violence and misogyny towards girls. He'll stop at anything to impress a girl, is willing to risk his reputation and take the German music culture by storm.

This was movie was a comedy story of an American boy in foreign countries (why is it always about American boys trying to score with the foreign girls?) It is a coming of age story about boy meets girl and what he tries to do win the girl's heart, as he learns a new culture he learns what it means to grow up and maybe be a man as well.

The 1080p 1.85 X 1 digital High Definition image and lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 mix are both professional, consistent and meld together just fine. Extras include deleted scenes, the Making of Morris From America, bloopers, casting tapes, commentaries and trailers.
