If
you're a fan of Beethoven, classical, or piano sonatas then you won't
want to miss this highly collectible Blu-ray box set of Beethoven
Piano Sonatas that features classical musician Rudolf Buchbinder
on piano, playing all of the piano sonatas from 1-32 spanning three
Blu-ray discs. Recorded in high definition at the Salzburg Festival,
Mozarteum, GroBer Saal in August 2014, this presentation will no
doubt serve as inspiration for musicians and keep the rest of us in
awe at this man's undeniable talent.
It[s
safe to say that Rudolf Buchbinder is an admirer of Beethoven as he
is seen here performing Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas, also known as
''the New Testament of piano music'' with ease. Spanning the
musician's entire life, the sonatas reflect both his personal life
and his career. Some key sonatas featured are ''Pathetique'',
''Moonlight'', ''Waldstein'', ''Appassionata'', ''Hammerklavier''
and the final sonata, op. 111.
Presented
in 1080i high definition with a 1.77:1 widescreen aspect ratio and a
DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 4.0 lossless track, the concert looks and
sounds fine for Blu-ray but one can't help but wonder how improved a
1080p or 4K shoot would look. There is also a PCM 2.0 Stereo track
on the disc that isn't as impressive as DTS, but not terrible either
based on what your home sound system is like.
The
only extra on one of the discs is a thirty-six-minute interview with
Rudolf Buchbinder about the Beethoven Piano Sonatas. A booklet full
of linear notes is also included that serves as a program to the
show.
This
is a nice collection, in highly collectible form, that classical
music lovers won't want to miss!
