Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life (2016/CBS Films/Lionsgate Blu-ray w/DVD)

Picture: B/B- Sound: B/B- Extras: B Film: C+

Steve Carr's 2016 coming-of-age comedy Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life is relatable to just about anyone who has dealt with the pains of puberty and trying to fit it during those pre-high school years. Based on a bestselling book series by James Patterson, the film is creatively shot and made, with several animated sequences and a fun cast. While some things in the film are a bit far fetched, it will certainly appeal to the younger crowd that its aimed at.

The film stars Griffin Gluck, Lauren Graham, Rob Riggle, Thomas Barbusca, Andrew Daly, and Adam Pally.

The film centers around the young and imaginative Rafe who is at odds with his new school principal at the new middle school he is attending. Not falling into the Dos and Donts that the school lays out as solid rules, Raff is constantly trying to make a name for himself and his imagination while the powers that be threaten his home and school life.

This Blu-ray/DVD combo pack features a nice transfer of the film in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 that has fantastic colors that pop throughout the film. Colors are nicely saturated with predominate blues in many of the scenes taking place within the school and natural flesh tones on the characters that look great in high def. The sound mix is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track that is clean throughout as well that doesn't disappoint.

Also included is a standard definition DVD edition which presents the film in 2.39:1 anamorphic widescreen and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track that sounds as good as it can for the format, though not as impressive obviously as the Blu-ray disc. A digital UV copy is also included.
