Apple Of My Eye (2016/Sony DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: C+ Film: C

Castille Landon's 2016 family friendly film Apple Of My Eye is the type of film with a message that you would find on a Hallmark or Disney Channel-style network. Starring Avery Arendes, Liam McIntyre, Amy Smart (Road Trip), and Burt Reynolds, the film centers around a little girl (Arendes), who loses her eyesight in a horse riding accident and ends up meeting a guard dog trainer named Charlie, who in turn introduces her to a small miniature horse that doubles as her sight.

If you couldn't tell from reading the synopsis, the film is quite predictable yet accomplishes its mission of being innocent family oriented fare. The film could easily happen in real life though ends up falling under storytelling tropes that are common in many kid/animal best friend movies.

Apple Of My Eye is presented in standard definition with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 paired with a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track - both of which are standard for the format and look and sound fine - putting the presentation around the same as a HD broadcast.
