Jocelyn
Moorhouse's period piece feature film The Dressmaker (2016) is
a beautifully shot, superbly acted revenge-comedy that will appeal to
more than just the fashion conscious or female crowd. The film
features a great performance by Kate Winslet along with supporting
actors Liam Hemsworth, Judy Davis, and Hugo Weaving.
Tilly
Dunage (Winslet) is more than just a woman who is easy on the eyes,
she is an exclusive Parisian fashion dressmaker and the stuff of
local legend. When she returns to her hometown in Australia, she
attempts to patch up her relationship with her mother (Davis) but
ends up falling in love and changing a few lives along the way.
The
Dressmaker is presented in 1080p high definition from its RED
Epic HD shoot that looks surprisingly naturalistic, with a widescreen
aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and the audio is a crisp-sounding English
DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless track with nice range and
fidelity with a solid soundfield throughout. The storybook-esque
colors are no doubt the basis for the color palette as much as the
film feels has that feel.
