Animals
Gone Wild: Season 3
National
Geographic presents viewers with an insane look at what happens with
animals go unhinged in nature. Everything from bears to elephants
and hippos, all of Mother Nature's most deadly creates lash out to
show who is at the top of the food chain in this interesting and well
photographed series.
This
season spans two DVDs and includes the episodes Angry Giants, Fast
and Furious, Hard Knocks, Double Trouble, Rockin' Renegades, Deadly
Game, Born to be Wild, and Party Crashers.
Presented
in standard definition on DVD, the show is presented in a widescreen
1.78:1 aspect ratio and a standard lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track that
mirrors the original HD broadcast, but again could use a 1080p
transfer to sharpen up the definition of the quality.
For
those interested in wild animal behavior, then this show is a great
and educational watch.
Rebel
Pope
This
intense look at the life of Pope Francis is a pretty inspirational
and up-close look at the life of a man who has been called a 'man of
the people.' In charge of one of the world's oldest and largest
religious institution, this documentary gives a look at what it must
be like to have such power over inspiring millions of people.
Gorgeously
shot and put together, this documentary is great for not only
Catholics, but for any Religious conscious folks that are interested
in learning more about Pope Francis.
Rebel
Pope is presented in standard definition with a widescreen
aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, which is
the standard for DVD. A high def. transfer would improve upon sound
and image clarity, hopefully National Geographic will release these
titles on a superior format soon.
Return
From The Dead
This
interesting documentary focuses on the human brain and what happens
to us when he die, followed by some interesting theories. The show,
hosted by Doctor (and neuroscientist) Steven Laureys, the show
interviews some people who have had close calls with death, out of
body instances, and more who share their experiences with us. The
point of the show is to prove a scientific answer to death rather
than a religious or supernatural answer.
Presented
in standard definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a
lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the DVD is up to standards with what
the format can handle and mimics the original television broadcast of
the material.
StarTalk:
Season One
Neil
deGrasse Tyson is probably the most famous astrophysicist in the
world and here he interviews top celebrities, innovators, and
scientists from around the world. Formally a podcast, the show is
pretty fascinating and brings up a lot of interesting theories about
science and life. We also get to see Science Guy Bill Nye show up
quite a few times as well.
Episodes
include George Takei, Christopher Nolan, Dan Save, Arianna
Huffington, Richard Dawkins, Jimmy Carter, Chris Hadfield, Biz Stone,
Charles Boden from NASA, and Norman Lear.
Presented
in standard definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a
lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the DVD is up to standards with what
the format can handle and mimics the original television broadcast of
the material.
Special
Features include...

Scientist
A
must see, if you're a fan of the subject of science.
When
Sharks Attack: Season 3
Fans
of sharks that have seen Jaws and all of the great shark
movies will love getting an up close and intense look at these
magnificent creatures (stereotyped or not) in their natural habitat
with the National Geographic series When Sharks Attack.
Exploring various shark attacks around the world, some at places you
wouldn't expect, the series continues to keep viewers on their toes.
Three
episodes comprise the third season, which span one DVD, including
Cape Jaws, Nightmare Island, and Carolina Chaos.
Much
like other discs in the National Geographic DVD series, the show is
presented in standard definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of
1.78:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, which is the norm for
DVD. A high def. transfer would improve upon sound and image
clarity, as is the case for all the releases on the list.
