If
you're like me then you're obsessed with Steven Spielberg's classic
film JAWS
(1975) and thanks to Matt Taylor, we now have a beautiful coffee
table book dedicated to the making of the film featuring never before
seen photographs and even extensive pre-production. JAWS:
Memories From Martha's Vineyard - Expanded Second Edition
is a 2016 upgrade of the original, best-selling book on high quality
paper with high quality picture reproduction for the blockbuster that
itself was finally restored a few years ago after so many poor prints
circulated.
Including
a foreword by Spielberg himself, the book also features interviews
with production designer Joe Alves, screenwriter Carl Gottlieb,
location casting director Shari Rhodes, and more - shedding light on
many of the film's unsung heroes and hearing their stories. After
several featurettes made on the film over the years, this is still as
special as it is informative.
Highlights
for me are the variety of photographs included here with some candid
and amateur photography that brings the unique production to vivid
life like never before. Even diagrams of 'Bruce' - the infamous
mechanical shark used during the film's production are included,
which gives you a better idea of how it worked... and did not.
For
maximum effect, put on John Williams soundtrack while flipping
through the pages!
