Ballers: The Complete Second Season (2016/HBO Blu-ray Set)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: C Episodes: C

Dwayne Johnson returns in Season 2 of Ballers - an HBO ''drama-edy'' from the creators of Entourage, co-starring Rob Corddry and Andy Garcia the show transports you to the high stakes world of pro football in Miami. Johnson plays a retired football superstar who has taken over a new position of financial manager where we get a look into the life of football players and their families, friends, and handlers. In essence, the show reminds me a lot of Tom Cruise's Jerry Maguire (reviewed elsewhere on this site), only without the romance and charisma of that film.

10 episodes span two Blu-ray discs, which include Face of the Franchise, Enter The Temple, Elidee, World of Hurt, Most Guys, Saturdaze, Everybody Knows, Laying in the Weeds, Million Bucks in a Bag, and the season finale Game Day.

Production quality at least gets a bit of an uptick versus the debut season we reviewed a year ago, in the presentation here in a sharp 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1, with a fantastic sounding DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 track, the show looks and sounds better than its original broadcast with impeccable detail throughout. Also included is a UV copy.

Special Features...

Inside the Episode bonus segments that give the play-by-play on all 10 episodes, featuring interviews with executive producer Evan Reilly, star Johnson and more.

If you're a fan of Johnson and football, then you may want to check the series out as it lives up to HBO's high production standards and has considerable talent behind it. Someone like me that doesn't really care about football, tended to get a little lost.
