For those who thought that Speed (1994) was an original concept, their dreams are about to be shattered as Hachiro Aoyama's 1975 action/thriller Bullet Train (also known as The Shinkansen Daibakuha) lands on Blu-ray disc in limited edition form, thanks to Twilight Time. The fast paced Japanese film has never looked better than it does here and while slightly dated in some ways (the amusing older technology), it still manages to feel very real in its approach to a hostage situation when a terrorist rigs a bullet train to explode, if it decreases under a specific speed limit.

The film stars Ken Takakura (The Yakuza), Shinichi ''Sonny'' Chiba, Kei Yamamoto, Akira Oda, Raita Ryu, Tetsuro Tamba, and Ken Utsui.

A mad bomber (Takakura) puts lives in danger as he straps a bomb to two trains and threatens the police that if they don't pay his large ransom, he will end the lives of the passengers onboard. He blows up one of them to show he isn't playing around and states if the second drops below 80 kilometers an hour that it, too, will meet a disastrous fate. Struggling to get the money together in time before the train reaches its final destination, everything is done to help save the lives of the passengers onboard and to trace the location of the killer before its too late.

Presented in sharp 1080p high definition with a 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio in ToeiScope and a remastered Japanese 1.0 DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless track, the film looks and sounds so fantastic on disc that is hard to believe its age when watching it. The colors are vibrant and the detail on the characters and locations are impeccable.
