Love Camp 7 (1969/Blu-ray w/DVD) + 99 Women (1969/2-disc Blu-ray w/Audio CD/Blue Underground Disc Limited Edition Sets)

Picture: B Sound: B+/B Extras: B-/B Films: C+

Two interesting adult exploitation films released in the same year, 1969, these films are not for the weak at heart, but definitely for those hoping to experience some vintage thrills in high definition.

Love Camp 7

Based on some truth (however unlikely), Love Camp 7 centers on a Nazi love camp (which tends to the needs of front line officers) that takes things a bit too far! Directed by Bod Cresse (The Scavengers), this is a film that will have you laughing one minute, grossed out the next as its full of inventive ways of torture, orgies, and other adult situations. Definitely not for the weak hearted viewer but definitely the ultimate cult movie fanatic!

Two young WAC officers go undercover as POW's in the prison camp hoping to get some information from a scientist that's being held there, before being sprung out by the French resistance. Unfortunately, things go wrong with the break out, end up overstaying their welcome and being subjected to the same indignities as the other inmates.

The film stars Bob Cresse, Maria Lease, Kathy Williams, Bruce Kimball, and John Alderman.

Included in the release is the film on both 1080p high definition Blu-ray disc and standard definition DVD. Restored from its recently uncovered camera negative, the film is presented from a new 4K high definition that brings Cinematographer Lee Frost's photography to a high standard that really bringing out the detail in his work. Presented in a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.66:1 and a DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless Mono track on the Blu-ray (lossy Dolby Digital Mono on the DVD), there will be little to no disappointments here in terms of presentation.

Special Features include...

99 Women

Controversial Filmmaker Jess Franco (Vampyros Lesbos) brings us the ultimate 'women in prison' film with 99 Women (1969). Censored since its original release, this is the first time all of the elements have been restored, culminating in a cinematic experience that fans of cult cinema certainly won't forget any time soon.

A new inmate by the name of Marie (Maria Rohm) arrives at an island prison in the women's sector and receives the number 99. The inmates are controlled by the sadistic lesbian warden Thelma Diaz (Mercedes McCambridge) and Governor Santos (Herbert Lom) and submitted to torture, rape and lesbianism. When the Minister of Justice replaces Diaz by Leonie Caroll (Maria Schell), Marie believes that her life will improve and her case will be reopened. However, Marie is disappointed with the new warden and decides to escape with two other inmates. However, their runaway scheme fails and the three women are chased not only by the guards, but also by male prisoners that have not seen women for many years.

The film is presented in 1080p high definition with a new 4K scan of the original camera negative and 1.66:1 aspect ratio here too. Simply put the film has never looked better than it does here! The audio track is equally as impressive with a Dolby Digital Mono track that restores the audio to a great sounding mix that doesn't disappoint. For a film as old as this, it's amazing what can be done to restore it nowadays. If Franco were still alive, he would certainly approve of this release!

The film stars some of the most beautiful women imaginable with Maria Schell (The Odessa File), Mercedes McCambridge (All The King's Men, Johnny Guitar), Maria Rohm (Eugenie), Rosalba Neri (The Castle of Fu Manchu) and Herbert Lom (Mark of the Devil).
