The Whole Truth (2016/Lionsgate Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: D Film: C

Keanu Reeves has made a nice come back in recent years with the John Wick series and for one reason or another decided to make this lackluster courtroom drama. Also starring Renee Zellweger, The Whole Truth (2016) tells the story of a struggling lawyer who is trying to protect a rich kid who presumably murdered his father, who wasn't that great of a guy to begin with. There really isn't anything that puts this movie on a level higher than an episode of Law and Order, save maybe some more violence. I felt that this could have been pushed further and been a bit more interesting, alas the overall story comes up a bit short.

The hardest part of this movie is trying to figure out who to root for, as all of the characters are pretty shallow and none really relatable. They all seem to have their own motives, though the lawyer-speak and the realism seems to be on point. All in all, the film is pretty forgettable and is worth watching for the performances of Reeves alone.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen 2.40:1 aspect ratio and a great sounding DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 track, the presentation is up to solid Blu-ray standards. The tones are pretty realistic throughout with muted whites and earth tones for the court room scenes and more natural looking exteriors. Nothing too special in terms of the look of the film.

Also included is a Digital UV copy.
