Here's
some war and action releases to know about...
Battle
For Incheon: Operation Chromite
Liam
Neeson stars as a corn cob pipe-smoking, tough as nails U.S. Army
General in this South Korean War movie that centers around a
fictionalized version of the historical CIA/U.S. Military
intelligence operation "Trudy Jackson", conducted before
the actual landing operation during the Battle of Incheon. While it
may appeal to history buffs, the film is much of the same in terms of
story, wooden dialogue, and standard war story, but has some
interesting visuals that help sell It. The film also stars foreign
actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Beom-soo, and Jin Se-yeon with direction by
John H. Lee (The
Third Way of Love).
South
Korean Navy Special Forces, Captain Jang Hak-soo and 7 members of the
KLO (Korean Liaison Office) unit disguise themselves as a North
Korean inspection unit (a Trojan Horse if you will) and infiltrate
the North Korean army command center in Incheon. Their mission
directives from Gen. MacArthur are: 1. Recon enemy forces in Incheon
and secure the mine chart, 2. Kidnap 'Ryu Jang-choon,' the second
highest ranking officer in the North Korean command center, to
acquire intel on the naval mine location and 3. On D-Day, light the
Palmido light house as a signal to the main UN forces. Can the group
succeed in their mission or become further casualties of the War?
Presented
in standard definition with a widescreen 1.77:1 aspect ratio and a
lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital track in Korean and dubbed English, the
presentation looks fine for DVD. Considering the nice looking
production design and look of the film, a high def version could
improve things. I'm surprised no digital copy is included.

Decommissioned
Timothy
Woodward Jr's action flick explores a Presidential assassination in
the Vinnie Jones vehicle Decommissioned,
which also stars Johnny Messner, James Remar, and Estella Warren (to
whom we haven't seen much of since Tim Burton's Planet
of the Apes).
The story is pretty typical and the action is a bit lackluster,
especially in the wake of action films such as John
Wick
that have pretty much pushed the envelope in terms of shooters.
A
retired CIA Agent John Niles (Messner) gets called out of retirement
when he is blackmailed into assassinating the President, turning his
once quiet life with his Wife (Warren) and family back in a deadly
game of cat and mouse. Turning to his old mentor, Niles soon tries
to unravel the people who blackmailed him in an attempt to clear his
name.
Presented
in standard definition with a anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of
2.35:1 and a lossy English 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio track, the film
looks and sounds fine for the DVD format but lacks some detail that
we have become accustomed to in high definition.
No
digital UV copy. No extras.
Your
typical popcorn action flick with a cookie cutter plot and
predictable plot points, Decommissioned
is nothing special... but I've seen worse.
