Girls und Panzer: der Film (2015/Sentai Blu-ray Set)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: C Film: B+

The girls of Ooarai Girls Academy love their tanks and everyday, continue to train and compete with other tank academies, but when the Ministry of Education goes back on their word, they suddenly decide to take away their ship academy and shut down their school! However, the girls of Ooarai aren't going down without a fight, they are given one chance to save their school but they will have to fight and win against a university level school in Girls und Panzer: der Film (2015).

The Ooarai Girls Tank Academy as a group are considered the underdogs of all girls tank academies. Stuck with old tanks, nobody expected them to become the dark horse of their school competitions, known for their unorthodox methods and thinking outside of the box, more than once they have faced impossible odds and come out on top. Now with their school's fate in balance, they are going to call in all favors from past friends and rivals to win back their school. Their past rival schools team up with the girls of Ooarai Academy, because if the Ooarai Girls are going down ...it will be in their tanks!

Girls in tanks can be cute too! This is series for tank lovers and cute girls, in a world where girls train in live tank mock battles, there are 'schools' in which the schools have tanks to train girls and have 'friendly' school competitions from time to time. This may just be a franchise on the rise.

The 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image transfers are a much better than the OVA set of this franchise we reviewed a little while ago, with far better color and detail in keeping with what we expect from Sentai. The sound is in rare-for-Sentai DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless mixes are presented in decent English and slightly better Japanese versions, versus 2.0 Stereo for most of their releases, but sounding a little better than the OVA set's uncommon 4.1 mixes. Extras include Girls und Panzer in 3 minutes, clean opening & closing animations and trailers.
