The Vampire Diaries: The Eighth and Final Season (2016 - 2017/Warner Blu-ray Set)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: B Episodes: C

Having survived longer than the Twilight franchise, The Vampire Diaries concludes its vampiric reign with this the Eighth and Final Season (2016 - 2017) on Blu-ray disc. Packed with pretty faces, the show ends on a high note that is good for its massive fanbase. In addition to this release, the entire series is also available in a huge boxset for the most diehard viewers. Developed by Williamson and Plec, the show has received numerous awards, including six Teen Choice Awards for Choice TV Show: Fantasy/Sci-Fi, and the People's Choice Award for New TV Drama, which is nothing to shake a stick at.

For the record, The Vampire Diaries: The Eighth and Final Season stars Paul Wesley (Fallen, Everwood), Ian Somerhalder (Lost), Kat Graham (17 Again, Honey 2), Candice King (Dating Rules from My Future Self, Supernatural), Zach Roerig (Friday Night Lights), Matt Davis (Damages, Blue Crush) and Michael Malarkey (Raw). Based on the series of books by L.J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries is from Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. The executive producers are Kevin Williamson (The Following, Scream, Dawson's Creek), Julie Plec (The Originals, Kyle XY), and Leslie Morgenstein (Pretty Little Liars, The Originals, Gossip Girl).

16 Episodes comprise Season 8 and include Hello Brother, Today Will Be Different, You Decided I Was Worth Saving, An Eternity of Misery, Coming Home Was a Mistake, Detoured On Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell, The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You, We Have History Together, The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch, Nostalgia's a Bitch, You Made a Choice To Be Good, What are you?, The Lies Will Catch Up With You, It's Been A Hell of a Ride, We're Planning a June Wedding, and I Was Feeling Epic.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and a nice sounding DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 track, the presentation is up to standards and far better than what you see on television/digital broadcast with deeper textures and more pronounced character detail.

A digital UV copy is also included for your digital library and you can find coverage of previous seasons elsewhere on this site.

Special Features...

- Last Days As A Vampire

- The Vampire Diaries: Forever Yours (Retrospective Special)

- The Vampire Diaries: 2016 Comic-Con Panel

- Deleted Scenes

While good for a teenage audience, I found the Vampire Diaries to be a bit predictable and not without some bad acting moments, but for what it is this is a good series sendoff.
