Table 19 (2017/Fox Blu-ray w/DVD)

Picture: B+/B- Sound: B+/B- Extras: C+ Film: C+

The new romantic comedy Table 19 (2017) by Jeffrey Blitz (Spellbound) explores the losers at a table during a wedding. The film's strongest point is its cast, with Anna Kendrick, Craig Robinson, June Squibb, Lisa Kudrow, and Stephen Merchant. Attempting to be a John Hughes movie of sorts, the group of misfits here are like a modern day Breakfast Club, with each one having their own unusual ties to other members of the wedding party. The bottom line: some laughs here and there, but overall, mediocre fare with a second act that drags.

Despite losing her maid of honor duties and being dumped by the best man via a text message, Eloise (Kendrick) decides to attend her oldest friend's wedding anyway. Of course, as you can imagine, this goes south pretty quickly as he finds herself seated among random strangers in the back of the ballroom, forcing them to be the audience for this odd display of emotions. Also of course, these outsiders soon become friends and end up making the most of their awkward situation.

Presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and a DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 track, the presentation is pretty solid all around. The tone here is pretty realistic and natural with no explosions or anything unrealistic happening in the film. Sometimes the clarity is a bit too unforgiving for some of the aging stars, but complimentary to others.

A standard definition DVD of the film is also included with an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 2.40:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track that's standard for the format and has soft edges and compression that are especially evident against the Blu-ray transfer.

A digital UV copy is also included.
