Prison Break: The Event Series (2017/Fox Blu-ray Set)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: C Episodes: C+

Similar to what they did with The X-Files last year, Fox has brought back one of its biggest shows into an exclusive mini-series. This time its Prison Break: The Event Series (2017). While not quite as big of a hit critically as it was years ago, especially with a wealth of crime related shows on the air, many fans will be happy to see some of the original players back into the fold on a new adventure. I found it to be a fun watch, though some plot points a big predictable and some moments a bit slower than other shows of the same nature.

The series stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Paul Adeslstein, Robert Knepper, Amaury Nolasco, Mark Feuerstein, and Rockmond Dunbar. The series was created by Paul Scheuring (A Man Apart).

Seven years after his 'death', Michael Scofield (Miller) resurfaces in the notorious Ogygia Prison in Sana'a, Yemen, under the false name of Kaniel Outis. As the country is engulfed by war, two of Michael's old friends, his brother Lincoln Burrows (Purcell) and Fox River escapee Benjamin 'C-Note' Franklin (Dunbar), travel to Yemen in an attempt to bring Scofield back to his home country. Things aren't so simple back in Michael's hometown as his lovely wife Sara (Callies), has moved on and gotten remarried. However, her live is far from normal as she is being hunted down by agents as Poseidon, the ones who were responsible for Michael's troubled past. These operatives have a plan in motion of their own that spells nothing but trouble for our heroes.

9 episodes span 3 discs and include Ogygia, Kaniel Outis, The Liar, The Prisoner's Dilemma, Contingency, Phaecia, Wine Dark Sea, Progeny, and Behind the Eyes.

Improving upon the original digital broadcast, Prison Break is presented on Blu-ray disc with a 1080p high definition transfer and a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1. Audio mixes are up to disc standards with a lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless track. There is definitely more detail in this presentation as opposed to the broadcasted version, that many fans will notice right away.

No digital UV copy.

A Return Home: The Making of "Prison Break" Event Series

For the most diehard fans, there is also a big Prison Break Collector's Set on Blu-ray now available that features all five seasons (a few of which we've reviewed elsewhere on this site) and a wealth of bonus material.
