Kyo Kara Maoh! – God (?) Save Our King: Volume One

(Animé TV)

Picture: B-     Sound: B-     Extras: C-     Episodes: C+

Once upon a time, Yuri Shibuya was a normal teenaged kid, with some bullies here and there, when suddenly, he found himself in a world of royalty, magic and a demon world with castles.  Oh well, this always seems to happen in the world of Animé and it is getting tired.  Kyo Kara Maoh! – God (?) Save Our King: Volume One is even more problematic because it is deconstructionist of the action elements and falls into formula very quickly.

To prove the point, the episodes titles are:

1)     Flushed Into The Alternate World

2)     Duel!  Hot Boy vs. Baseball Boy

3)     Yuri Shibuya!  I AM The Demon King!

4)     What’s Next?  The Ultimate Weapon?

5)     Sailors & A Spoiled Brat

See it at your own risk, but if you see this tired, formula kind of show, know the anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1/16 X 9 image is stylized with the usual white hazing, another cliché.  However, it is clean and clear otherwise, looking really good otherwise.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo in either Japanese or English have Pro logic surrounds.  Extras include a textless opening, three previews for other Geneon titles, and character data, plus this edition had an oversized color slide-as-mini-cell.  You can get it while they last.
