Tenjho Tenge – Round 01 (Animé TV)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: C

Bob & Souichiro want to be the most popular and influential guys in their school, but competition gets in their way and all kinds of fighting is included.  How so many fights can happen at a school and anything get done is another story, but Tenjho Tenge is a badly written formula show that has each episode listed as an enumerated fight.  Girls are involved, but they are sharing equal rights with men in both fighting and being equally airheaded.  This is for ages 16 and above, but the mentality was below 16, so watch at your own risk.

The full frame 1.33 X 1 image is a bit soft in the style of this kind of animation that I never like and never get used to.  The source material and final transfers are clean and the show which is what should be expected for a recent production, though some faux focus blurring is interesting.  The sound offers English and Japanese language tracks as usual, Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo in both cases as well, but any kinds of Pro Logic surrounds are very limited.  That is a disappointment.  The only extra is the opening without text and three previews for other Geneon DVDs, too typical of limited extras from Geneon.
