Girls Bravo – Volume 1 (Animé TV)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C     Episodes: C+

When we got this 17 years+ of age title from Geneon that warned of nudity, I was apprehensive that this might be cheap or exploitive, though the company has never sent us anything from the garbage end of Animé.  Instead, though Girls Bravo has its share of nudity here and there, the narrative is the focus, despite the oversimplistic scripts.

It is, instead, just another boy/girls cutesy relationship melodrama like we have seen plenty of times by now.  Though a tad more mature, the titles that follow show the mentality:

1)     Bravo From The Bathtub!

2)     Bravo At School!

3)     Cooking Is Bravo!

4)     Bravo In The Mansion

The male lead has supposed fear of girls, but the show is not smart enough to do enough with that, because it is too busy being silly.  The addition of girls from other planets is just wacky, but par for the course in Animé and fans may enjoy it.

The full frame 1.33 X 1 image is passable, with some good color, but also the tendency of too many Animé titles to purposely be out of focus-looking and soft.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has no surrounds in either Japanese or English.  The few extras include three Geneon Animé previews, original Japanese opening, text-free opening, and 25 stills Line Art section.
