Waterhole #3

Picture: B-     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Film: D

If you think that the title is lame wait until you see the film!  Waterhole #3 is a ridiculous Western that should have never really been made and there is one scene in particular that just made me want to laugh forever.  I could not believe what I was seeing, so I will describe the scene for those less fortunate to have seen it.

The ‘hero’ of our story rapes a girl (the heroine to the story) in a barn and is caught by her father, who is more upset that the man stole one of his horses.  After scorning the man for stealing his horse and then forgiving him the father then explains to his daughter that it was merely ‘assault with a friendly weapon’!  Can you believe this?  And of course the film is a comedy/western sort of thing that is just plain terrible throughout.  It is hard to believe that James Coburn and Carroll O’Connor even had careers around this one.

Paramount’s DVD is fairly simple with a 2.35 X 1 anamorphically enhanced picture taken from the Techniscope process.  Some dirt and debris still remains on the print along with some softness and the colors seem unbalanced at times as well.  The Dolby mono is standard as well with all the limitations that coincide with big fat mono sound.  However, I doubt that very much would help this film out at that.
