Rumiko Takahashi Anthology – A Touch Of Magic

(Volume 3/Animé TV)

Picture: B-     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: C+

Rumiko Takahashi Anthology – A Touch Of Magic is the third and latest volume of episodes offering a variety of unrelated stories in what is still a rare thing in Animé.  The new stories are:

7) Hundred Years Love

8) In Lieu Of Thanks

9) Living Room Love Song

For some reason, these shows with their theme of the elderly and supernatural just do not work.  I thought Rumiko Takahashi Anthology was one of the better Animé TV shows to date, but it looks like it is more uneven than expected.  At least its diversity is a strength as the storylines could get better from volume to volume.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image again reproduces well, but is more diverse since the stories are different.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has no serious surround information of any kind, unfortunately, but is well recorded and allows you to hear the stories better.  Extras are a bit less with three previews of other Geneon Animé DVD titles, and another production art gallery.  Maybe Geneon even realized how odd this volume would be and kept this part minimal.  We’ll see if the next volumes improve or not.
