The Slaughterhouse Massacre (2005)

Picture: C     Sound: B-     Extras: D     Main Program: C-

Shot on video of some kind, The Slaughterhouse Massacre (2005) is yet another in a seemingly endless and tired series of would-be slasher films wanting to capitalize shamelessly on the endless success of the 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  Over 30 years later, the attempts, even the recent remake, seem remarkably bankrupt, but this one feels really thrown together.

A couple has sex in a slaughterhouse, and therefore they must die…  Though the supposed twist here is that they are interrupted and assaulted badly.  Years later, the guy wants revenge, so the old adage applies.  Too bad no new ideas, good dialogue or anything resembling a memorable performance occurs.  Instead, this is a cash-in cheapie that Lion’s Gate hopes will pull in a few quick bucks.  Unfortunately, it is extremely unambitious and even Lion’s Gate has much better titles in the genre.  You have been warned.

The 1.85 X 1 image is letterboxed and has all kinds of detail troubles, hazing and color inconsistency throughout.  The image has limited rewatchability and is a big disappointment.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo actually has Pro Logic surrounds used to be loud so you do not notice the bad script.  Except for a few trailers, there are no extras, as if there could be anything to add to this mess.  Save 90 minutes of your life and try something else.
