Matt Criscuolo – Lotus Blossom

Sound: B-     Music: B

Alto Saxophone is strongly associated with Jazz, so Matt Criscuolo is ahead of the game in genre credibility.  Lotus Blossom is his new CD and to be honest, this is some really good music.  He even composed some of the tracks himself, as follows:

1)     Lotus Blossom

2)     To Wisdom The Prize

3)     The Big Push

4)     Everything I Have Is Yours

5)     Spirit Waltz

6)     Parakeet Lovesong

7)     Julian's Pencil

8)     Exciting World Of Jazz

9)     Song For Kerry

10)  Iron Wills

So all the tracks are rich in the layers of played instruments from guest musicians accompanying Criscuolo, which just makes the music a pleasure to hear.  The problem with the CD is that the sound quality is a bit soft and veiled for a recent album release.  The PCM 2.0 16Bit/44.1kHz Stereo is clean, but not always clear.  Turning up the volume did not change that and though you might hear it louder, I kept wishing this would sound richer.  Despite this, Jazz fans will still want to get their hands on this CD.
