The Big Black Comedy Show – Volume Three

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Concert: B-

The Big Black Comedy Show – Volume Three (2005) is hosted this time by Michael Colyar and is less political and daring, but still sexually bold and brings on DeRay Davis as co-host, plus comics Retha Jones, Ricky Harris, Wil Sylvince, Shawn Morgan and Lil’ Rel.  Once again, all are politically incorrect, but the humor is more of the urban humor one would expect instead of the last show, which was somewhat groundbreaking.

The show again runs about 90 minutes and comes from Chicago.  This entry is also on the revived Key DVD label Fox has reintroduced for the daring and different.  Miss Jones is particularly funny, daring to deal with the new ‘weightism” between different women and the resulting conflict is a highlight.  The other comics have their moments and this is nearly as good as the last release.  Try both and compare.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1/16 X 9 image, though the DVD case text misidentifies it as 1.33 X 1, meaning it looks better than the case is giving it credit for.  Detail is lacking a bit, but it is an adequate performer, along with the Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, though that has no serious surround information.  There are no extras, but you get brief interviews in between some of the stand-up comedy.
