Dominator The Animated Movie

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: C     Film: D

Oh my god, this was awful!

This animated feature is set in the land of Heavy Metal clichés.  A demon Lord called Lord Desecrator has taken over Hell and is launching an attack on Earth.  Desacrator can only be stopped by the Dead God of Rock and Rollimagine a searing lead guitar riff right about here the Dominator.  Yes, it’s the CG animated Dominator from England.

Yeah, it's as bad as it sounds.  The animation is comprised of computer generated 3-D images that are slow moving and awkward, never more obvious than during a sex scene.  Most video games have higher quality graphics.  While some moments of the movie are an attempt at comedy, most of it is unintentionally just laughable.  The script is ponderous, the voiceovers poorly done, and the plot impenetrable.

I’m a music fan, and I admit not being into a lot of this kind of Metal.  This film is full of the reasons why most people just don¹t get it.  Metal adherents take the trappings of the genre, i.e. skulls and chrome and pentacles and demons, ad nauseum, so seriously.  Here, they seem pitifully trite and downright silly.  The symbols of their rebellion have become reduced to bad fashion that declares their uniformity.

Such luminaries as Cradle Of Filth, Digitalis, and a whole bunch of other bands you haven’t heard of unless you’re an aficionado provide the soundtrack.
