Slip ‘N’ Slide Records: Memorial Day Weekend

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Program: D

We thought the Hip Hop Time Capsule series was a lame compilation of the genre on DVD.  At least as cheap, cheesy and tired is Memorial Day Weekend, a really bad collection that boasts a bunch of artists who usually do not show up and are often misspelled on the case.  Women show up nude and semi-nude in ways that look as bad as the worse amateur XXX cycle junk, though R Kelly does some silly a capella piece at the end.  After an hour, that end does not come fast enough.  All this could do is remind us how deep in trouble Hip Hop is now.

The video is basically 1.33 X 1 full screen, but is a wreck otherwise, with bad analog video (even if done on DV, it is NTSC) and poor color, video black and editing that is a mess.  Nothing makes much sense here and this is not even a good party disc.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Sound is barely better and the location recording is very erratic.  There are no extras, which means the torture ends sooner.
