Boggy Creek II

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: D     Film: C-

In a cross between a would-be documentary and would-be Horror film of some sort, the first Boggy Creek films were small independent schlock hits.  Boggy Creek II (aka Barbaric Beast Of Boggy Creek) is actually the third, but the fact that they cannot seem to count up to the number three gives you an idea of how much effort and accuracy in the shooting, choice of actors, locations and how important getting anything right was not.

This was filmed in 1983, but not released until 1985, a bad year at the box office, so this straight-to-video hack property actually got a theatrical release.  Too bad, because it is a total mess, but Elite Entertainment could not resist issuing this turkey.  Early on, you too will be routing for the monster to maim all in its way, starting with those behind the camera.  Only because this was shot outdoors in what looks like a 1970s film does it save itself from the all-time disaster list, but it is close.  If you spend your money on this one, that and you will be up S%$#@ creek.  Skip it.

The 1.33 X 1 image is soft, down a few generations and looks like it came off of an inter-negative.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is barely stereo and maybe barely mono.  The only extra is a trailer, which likely repelled potential viewers.  If you need to see a gem from 1985, see Year Of The Dragon or Real Genius instead.
