Two’s Company – The Complete Series Four

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: B-

Acorn Media concludes its timely, entertaining DVD releases of the funny British Situation Comedy Two’s Company with The Complete Fourth Series.  Elaine Stritch & Donald Sinden are back and still wittily at each other’s throats.  It was 1978 by now, but the show never dimmed or missed a beat much.  The episodes this time are, all starting with “The” in the title:

1)     Club

2)     Clergy

3)     Salesman

4)     Visiting Scots

5)     Silence

6)     Rolls-Royce

7)     Friendly Aristocrats

The 1.33 X 1 full frame image is from the original PAL sources, but does look more like a generation down with color noise here and there.  The overly simple hand drawn animation of the credits is always amusing.  The shows tapes have still survived well and are in good condition, so that goes well with the Dolby Digital 2.0 sound, which has been boosted to a simple stereo form the original TV monophonic sound.  The only extra again yet again is biography text on the two actors in this case.  This would be the last season of Two’s Company and the actors moved on to other success.  Too bad there were not more extras or a documentary in these four parts, but the shows are fun and hold up very well three decades later.  Catch any volume if you have never seen the show.
